Manholes are made of many components and materials. Each serves a different purpose and contributes to the complex structure of the manhole. Each component has specific repair and renewal requirements because each has its own set of possible defects. PowerVac completes manhole repair for facilities of all sizes.
Problems on the pavement surface often cause catch basin failures. Pavement problems should be repaired as soon as possible to avoid further damage and costly repairs in the future. If you see any signs of blocks or brick damage, the main structure is no longer secure. Driving or parked vehicles creates further damage the structure and you then face the risk of the entire top structure collapsing.
Manholes usually fail because of tuck pointing or wash outs. The mortar inside the joints or the top ring of the basin deteriorates, allowing water to enter the structure through the bricks instead of the top grate. This water causes erosion and then icy conditions during the winter. Blocks and bricks are displaced by the ice and this damages the structure.
After the manhole repair has been completed, the existing cast iron frame and lid will be reinstalled on the new basin and reset at the correct height to ensure proper drainage. The excavated area will then be backfilled, leveled, and compacted. We will then provide either asphalt mix or concrete which will then be poured or rolled to match the existing grade. A pre-build concrete structure with adjustment rings will be installed and connected to the existing drainage lines in the event that the entire manhole needs replacing.
